Mamoudou Maiga, MD, PhD, is the recipient of an AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) Minority HIV Investigator Mentoring Program (MHIMP) Award for 2018-2019. The ACTG Underrepresented Populations Committee (UPC) reviewed applications for this award and unanimously supported funding Dr. Maiga's proposal to screen and evaluate the prevalence of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis and non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) infections in HIV seropositive patients naïve to antiretroviral treatment.
The UPC described Dr. Maiga as "deeply committed to a career in TB and HIV research" and noted that "Dr. Maiga’s application was distinguished by the strength of his training, ACTG involvement, and publication history."
Dr. Maiga was recently awarded R03 funding from the National Insitutes of Health for the development and evaluation of a multiplex assay that can differentiate tuberculosis from NTM infections including Mycobacterium avium. Dr. Maiga will use this innovative assay technology in his proposed MHIMP project. His work is conducted under the mentorship of Center for Global Health Director, Robert Murphy, MD.
The Center for Global Health congratulates Dr. Maiga!
