Through donor philanthropy, the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health funds nine specialized centers and programs, conducts research spanning topics from global oncology to biomedical engineering and supports transdisciplinary educational partnerships.
"It is truly humbling for us to play a small part in the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health.
Throughout the years, we have witnessed not only how the Institute is improving Northwestern University’s teaching approach to medicine, but also how it is impacting and empowering communities, hospitals, and doctors around the world, specifically in the most vulnerable places.
We thank Dr. Havey for letting us be part of this remarkable initiative to make the world a better place."

"The mission of the Robert J. Havey, MD Institute for Global Health, rooted in the recognition that healthcare is not bounded by geography, is focused on providing life-saving solutions, which we take for granted, to healthcare issues plaguing underserved countries in other parts of the world. We are honored to join in supporting the extraordinary accomplishments of the physicians, scientists, students, and all the others dedicated to furthering that mission, under the leadership of Dr. Murphy and Dr. Havey."

Sharing the Havey Institute for Global Health’s goal to improve health for a better world, donors help to create opportunities for critical research that expands knowledge, capacity and equity in global health. In the past five years alone, this funding has allowed Havey Institute for Global Health to invest $4.5 million dollars in internal research and programmatic funding for Northwestern University faculty-directed research projects.
With the support of donor funding, the institute has introduced funding opportunities for faculty that aim to catalyze research and educational programs to achieve its mission. With more than 50 funded projects currently ongoing, the impact of donors is felt worldwide. In 2022, Havey Institute for Global Health introduced a new Global Innovation Challenge Award, which funds high risk/high reward research with $250,000 in funding for two-year projects. These projects have addressed pressing topics such as the development of a COVID-19 genomic testing capacity-building program in Latin America, an avian influenza test for point-of-care diagnosis in low resource settings, an African Network for HPV-associated cancer prevention and control and improving stroke care for better health outcomes in Nigeria, among others.
